Long Beach Transit (LBT) and Complete Coach Works (CCW) have reached the midway point to perform LBT’s mid-life rehabilitation project on 72 buses from 2012, 2013 and 2015.
The project includes a cosmetic rehabilitation and engine replacement. The 40-foot-long buses are being repowered with the new Cummins L9N CNG “Near Zero” engines. CCW says the newer engines are cleaner, more fuel efficient and require less maintenance. In addition to the repower, the buses also include new aluminum wheels, new LED exterior and interior lightning, new exterior mirrors, repainted driver’s areas and interior sidewalls, reupholstered passenger seat inserts, new floorings, upgrades to the fire suppression systems and new paint and decals.
“CCW has been contracting work with Long Beach for years and this is one of the most rewarding projects to date,” said Kevin O'Brien, general sales manager for CCW. “Work on the buses is moving along swiftly. We look forward to the outcome and thrilled to offer reliable buses for years to come. This has been a joint effort to bring more value to the city. This project will allow LBT to continue its path of providing a cleaner transportation system to its community.”
