Valley Metro launches AlertVM rail safety and security app

AlertVM allows Valley Metro rail riders to directly report incidents to rail operations staff.

Valley Metro rail riders can now download a free safety and security app for reporting incidents directly to rail operations staff. AlertVM is one more element of the Respect the Ride program introduced last fall. Riders can discreetly report suspicious activity, vandalism, graffiti, disruptive behavior and maintenance issues or receive notifications about service delays.

“We are committed to providing our riders with a safe and reliable light rail experience. The AlertVM app will help us more quickly identify and respond to issues through the eyes and ears of our riders,” said Scott Smith, Valley Metro CEO. “AlertVM will enhance our ability to keep our riders and our system safe and comfortable.”

The Valley Metro Rail Code of Conduct is the key driver behind the Respect the Ride program, which discourages disruptive behavior on the Valley’s 26-mile light-rail line. In addition to the Code of Conduct, Respect the Ride includes enhanced station signage on rules for riding, station fare zone striping, the Right and Rong marketing campaign, increased teams of security officers, and in 2019, station ambassadors.

Riders can download the app on both iOS and Android phones.
