Excavation of two twin tunnels on the eastern underground segment of the 9.2-kilometer (5.6-mile) Eglinton Crosstown West Extension project has been completed. The tunnels, both 500 meters (0.31 miles) in length, run from Mount Dennis Station to Jane Street. Tunnelling on the western underground segment, stretching 6.3 kilometers (3.9 miles) from Scarlett Road to Renforth Drive, was completed in June 2024.

Once complete, the extension will connect seven new stations to the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit project, making travel faster and more convenient while bringing more than 37,500 people within a 10-minute walk of transit. The extension will connect with other regional transit operators, including UP Express, GO Transit, the Toronto Transit Commission and MiWay bus services.

The government of Canada is investing approximately C$1.87 billion (US$1.34 billion) in the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, part of its nearly C$10.4 billion (US$7.5 billion) investment in Toronto’s new major transit projects, including the Ontario Line, Scarborough Subway Extension and the Yonge North Subway Extension. The government of Ontario is leading the project’s construction through Metrolinx.

I am pleased that the federal government’s partnership with Ontario is making continued progress to build the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension possible," said Canada's Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Jennifer McKelvie.

In July, excavation started on the extension’s four underground stations, creating the subterranean space for the station boxes—the underground structures that will make up the main form of the station. When complete, the extension will run from Scarborough, Ontario, through midtown Toronto and into Mississauga, Ontario.

Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx chose Trillium Rail Partners to deliver the stations, rail and systems for the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension in September 2025.
