Two new members have been recently appointed to the VIA Metropolitan Transit Board of Trustees. The Greater Bexar County Council of Cities appointed former city of Alamo Heights Mayor Louis R. Cooper, and the Bexar County Commissioners Court appointed USAA Innovation Business Development Director Marina Alderete Gavito.
“As our community continues to grow and prosper, we are mindful of the value that innovation and collaboration bring to improving quality of life through public transit options,” VIA Board Chair Hope Andrade said. “Trustees Cooper and Gavito embrace and embody these values, and will help advance VIA’s mission to connect our communities to opportunity, support economic vitality, and plan for the transportation needs of our region.”
Trustee Cooper is a partner at One Touch Direct, a contact center with locations in San Antonio, Florida, New York, and Canada. He has also served on the boards of the Cancer Therapy & Research Center, the American Cancer Society, Respite Care, and the Bank of San Antonio. Trustee Cooper is a lifetime member of the San Antonio Greater Chamber of Commerce.
Prior to joining USAA, Trustee Gavito held various leadership and technical roles at Rackspace. She currently chairs the MOVE San Antonio board, and serves on the Ella Austin Community Center Board, the St. Mary's University Alumni Association, Bexar County Child Welfare Board, and was a founding board member of New Leaders Council - San Antonio Chapter.
The 11-member VIA Board of Trustees meets monthly to discuss policy issues and hear comments from the community. VIA Board meetings are generally held on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
