NY: Dutchess Transit: Workers Vote Down Contract 51-13

Dutchess Mass Transit workers voted down the third contract offer 51-13 made by the county and First Transit, which along with its subsidiary, Transit Management of Dutchess County, operates the county bus system.

Dutchess Mass Transit workers voted down the third contract offer 51-13 made by the county and First Transit, which along with its subsidiary, Transit Management of Dutchess County, operates the county bus system.

The contract negotiations have been ongoing for the past few months. "We're close, but no cigar," said Jerry Ebert Teamsters representative for Local 445, whose members include bus drivers, mechanics, call-takers and utility workers.

The union also decided to put aside plans to strike for now, and focus on building public support for its drivers.
