Former Mayor Bill Purcell and Davidson County Clerk Brenda Wynn have been tapped to lead a new task force that's tasked with identifying ways to ensure safety, affordability and inclusiveness of corridors affected in Mayor Megan Barry's proposed $5.2 billion transit plan for Nashville.
Barry announced the creation of the 19-member Transit and Affordability Taskforce this week. The group, co-chaired by Purcell and Wynn, held its introductory meeting on Wednesday.
The committee's creation, promised by Barry last month when she unveiled sweeping plans for a new light rail system, comes as some social activists have warned that new transit in neighborhoods could accelerate Nashville's gentrification further.
