VIA Metropolitan has joined the lip sync craze that’s sweeping the nation and released its lip sync video with a rendition of “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars.
VIA Metropolitan Transit accepted a challenge from Austin’s Capital Metro to join the phenomenon, which until recently, featured mostly law enforcement departments across the country performing to popular songs with creative videos.
The video features VIA bus/van operators and staff, along with VIA mascot Safety Sofie, getting their funk on with a playful take on the popular song that spotlights Mars’ dance moves. The video also includes one of VIA’s cleaner-fuel CNG buses and one of its Prímo buses.
In its Facebook post of the video, VIA challenges transit companies Houston Metro, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, and Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority to get creative with their own videos.
The lip sync challenge phenomenon started in San Antonio after Bexar County Sherriff’s Deputy Alexander Mena posted a video in June, which has 1.5 million Facebook views. Dozens of law enforcement and fire departments have since gotten in on the challenge.
