The Rides on Demand service uses a new app to provide a flexible rideshare option.

Laketran is now offering same-day, door-to-door transportation with its new Rides on Demand service. The app-based service combines the reliability of Laketran’s Dial-a-Ride service with the flexibility of rideshare platforms.

Designed to enhance mobility options for Lake County residents, Rides on Demand offers individuals who need to take a last-minute trip access to transportation without the need to book days in advance. The service aims to cater to the growing demand for flexible travel options, accommodating spontaneous trips for work, errands, medical appointments or leisure activities.

“We know it’s sometimes difficult to schedule every trip you need to take two to 12 days in advance with a traditional Dial-a-Ride reservation,” said Laketran CEO Ben Capelle. “This new service will allow customers to book same-day trips, giving them greater flexibility and control over their travel plans.”

The service is available to the general public, but offers reduced fare for seniors, people with disabilities and veterans similar to Laketran’s Dial-a-Ride service.

Laketran announced the service launch on May 20 at Lake County Senior Day event at the Great Lakes Mall. Lake County Commissioners expressed their strong support for the service.

“Rides on Demand provides our residents with a modern, efficient transportation option that adapts to their schedules—not the other way around,” said Laketran Commission President Richard J. Regovich. “It’s another step forward in making our community more connected and accessible.”

Laketran Commissioner John T. Plecnik added, “Reliable same-day transportation is what our seniors and people with disabilities deserve, and it’s very exciting to see Laketran embrace the technology to bring it to Lake County. This service is another step we’re taking in Lake County to combat senior isolation and provide more opportunities for those who rely on public transit.”

Laketran Commissioner Morris W. Beverage III emphasized the broader impact, saying, “Reliable same-day transportation expands economic opportunity for everyone. This service empowers residents with independence and supports local business by helping more people reach their destinations quickly and affordably.”
