Thanks to a new partnership between Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) and Token Transit, customers can now send and receive digital JTA bus passes through text and can convert cash to digital passes.
Token Transit expands cashless and touchless payment options already offered to customers through the MyJTA App, without the need for physical tickets, or if they do not have access to a bank account, debit or credit card.
Customers can send and receive digital passes to anyone through the Token Transit website or by downloading the free Token Transit app, which is available for smart mobile devices through the iOS Apple App and Google Play Stores.
“Token Transit improves equity in our transportation network while promoting safer cashless payment options by removing the barrier of needing a credit card or bank account to purchase digital passes,” said JTA CEO Nathaniel P. Ford Sr. “Token Transit also enhances our ability to further support nonprofits, schools and other partners by easily distributing passes at a moment’s notice and without the need for physical tickets.”
To convert cash to digital fares, customers can come to the Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center at LaVilla (JRTC) Ticket Windows on the ground level. The staff will convert the cash payment and send the digital pass through a text message so customers can use touchless boarding on JTA buses. To board, customers just scan their digital passes at the front of the bus.
Anyone can purchase and send JTA fares through the Token Transit website through text, without sharing financial information. Digital passes can also be purchased through the MyJTA App, the Token Transit App or from the Token Transit website.
To purchase on the Token Transit Website:
- Click Send a Pass.
- Select the fare type and fill out the necessary payment information.
- Send a pass to an email or phone number.
