Mass Transit Weekly Update 5/13/2016

May 13, 2016
This weeks transit update includes videos from Hyperloop One, BC Transit, the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority (TransLink) and the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA).

Development of the nearly supersonic transportation system known as the hyperloop reached a new milestone Wednesday as entrepreneurs propelled a small sled about 100 yards at half its eventual targeted speed at a test in Las Vegas hosted by Hyperloop One.

In celebration of driver appreciation day BC Transit asked some of its drivers to share some of their favorite stories from the road.

TransLink is upgrading several existing stations and exchanges in order to accommodate increasing passenger volumes, meet accessibility commitments and improve the customer experience. A recent time-lapse video shows how they installed a new elevator shaft at Metrotown Station as part of the station upgrade work.

MTA is in the process of considering construction options to repair the Canarsie Tunnel on the L line - which received the worst damage during Superstorm Sandy. The tunnel needs repairs to prevent unplanned closures.
