IFTEC GmbH & Co. KG from Leipzig has received an order for modernization of 40 vehicles of the type NF6 from Rheinbahn AG. As a sub-supplier Vossloh Kiepe GmbH renewed the electrical equipment. The order volume amounts to about 20 million euros.
The vehicles, which were manufactured by Duewag and put into service in Düsseldorf between 1996 and 1999, are to be made fit for the next 15 years. Therefore, IFTEC is going to refurbish all car bodies and all mechanical components as well as the bogies. Vossloh Kiepe is going to overhaul the electrical equipment, renew the DC 750 V cables and the cables at the articulation, and install CCTV as well as an air conditioning system in the driver’s cab.
The refurbishment of the prototype begins in Leipzig in September 2016. The other 39 vehicles will be modernized little by little until the end of 2018. Rheinbahn AG also has an option for refurbishment of its remaining eight NF6 vehicles.
The modernization of the NF6 vehicles is a new joint IFTEC and Vossloh Kiepe project. The two specialist companies have already been awarded contracts for modernization of 39 articulated motor coaches of the type F76 operated in the Berlin metro as well as 40 tramcars operated by VAG Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft in Nuremberg. Moreover, the two companies have already successfully finished the modernization of 55 tramcars of the type R2.2 operated by the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH.
