Charlotte Area Transit System has announced it is offering customers a free one-way LYNX or bus pass when customers use the Cash Wallet feature of CATS new mobile payment app.

Charlotte Area Transit System has announced it is offering customers a free one-way LYNX or bus pass when customers use the Cash Wallet feature of CATS new mobile payment app, CATS Pass, until Jan.31. CATS customers can earn a free one-way LYNX light rail or bus pass by simply downloading the CATS Pass App on their Android or iPhone device and loading at least $10 in their Cash Wallet through the CATS Customer Service office located at the Charlotte Transportation Center. Twenty-four hours after the account is loaded, a free one-way pass will appear in the CATS Pass App. The free pass must be used by Mar. 31 of this year.

CATS launched the CATS Pass mobile payment app in July 2017 to provide more payment options for customers. The Cash Wallet feature on the app assists customers who would like to use mobile payment but may not have a credit card or relationship with a bank.

“Our goal with the CATS Pass mobile app is to make riding transit more convenient through use of technology, and this app allows customers to purchase passes anytime, anywhere with their smartphone,” said CATS CEO John Lewis. “It also gives our customers without a traditional relationship with a financial organization access to the same convenience with cash on their smartphone.”

CATS representatives will be on location at Charlotte Transportation Center throughout the month of January educating customers about the app and the cash wallet feature. Riders are encouraged to stop by on Jan. 10 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 a.m. or Jan. 11 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. to learn more about the promotion.
