IndyGo postpones implementation of new route networks as part of COVID-19 response

The implementation of IndyGo’s new, grid-based bus network previously planned for June 2020, will be postponed due to several factors related to the COVDI-19 pandemic.

COVID-19 has impacted IndyGo’s operations in many ways. At its March meeting, the IndyGo Board of Directors authorized staff to begin operating Saturday service on weekdays and temporarily suspend fare collection. It is not clear at this time how long these measures will remain in place. IndyGo is closely monitoring guidance from government and health officials as it determines the safest and most efficient way to operate service moving forward. 

In recognition of these impacts, the board of directors approved postponing the implementation of the new network.  Other planned service modifications, such as bus stop changes, will also be postponed.

“IndyGo is proud of the work we’ve done to gather rider feedback and adjust our proposed network accordingly, and we’re excited to implement this new network,” said Bryan Luellen, vice president of public affairs for IndyGo. “Right now, our focus is on keeping our staff safe and protecting our service as we transport riders making essential trips around Indianapolis.”    

IndyGo encourages riders to follow the guidelines set by health and government officials and limit travel to essential trips only. This will help keep operators and passengers safe and ensure IndyGo can maintain essential service. IndyGo has implemented additional measures to keep its buses and facility clean and healthy.
