VIA Metropolitan Transit celebrates one million trips completed on VIVA routes.

VIA Metropolitan Transit is celebrating 1 million passenger trips on its specially branded routes, VIVA, that connect the heart of San Antonio’s cultural, historic and entertainment destinations and events. The routes debuted in June 2016 and, also support employees and businesses in the tourism and hospitality industry.

To commemorate the milestone, the San Antonio Museum of Art hosted a news conference July 2 with museum director Katie Luber, U.S. House Representative of the 35 District of Texas Lloyd Doggett and VIA President/CEO Jeffrey C. Arndt. Arndt thanked VIVA partners for being a vital part of its success as a viable transit option for both San Antonio visitors and residents alike.

“We have experienced an outpouring of support and enthusiasm for these three VIVA routes that are really one of a kind,” said Arndt. “VIVA has shown us all that we cherish the connections through art, music, history, learning and discovery. Our 1 million passenger trips affirm that VIVA truly is a lifeline to the places and people and experiences that we love about San Antonio.”

More than 37 million visitors arrive in the Alamo City each year, many with destinations in the historic downtown area and the region’s cultural corridors, and VIA’s VIVA service connects travelers with some of the most popular sites in Texas with its VIVA culture (11), VIVA missions (40), and VIVA centro (301) routes. VIA partners with venues, storefronts, and events along all three VIVA corridors. With VIVA, VIA has created a unique and vital connection to the people, places, and experiences that make San Antonio and the region the true heart of Texas.

Hospitality is one of the top five industries in San Antonio, contributing $15.2 billion into the local economy and employing more than 140,000. VIA’s VIVA service is the connection to the region’s attractions and celebrations. VIVA routes run daily. For more information on VIA’s VIVA service, visit our VIVA page.
