On March 22-24, 2019, GRTC will serve as the host site for Virginia’s Annual State Roadeo, an operator and mechanic competition with skilled course and obstacle tests showcasing safety, efficiency and professionalism.
GRTC Interim Chief Executive Officer Charlie Mitchell says, “We are excited to host guests from other transit systems across the Commonwealth here at GRTC Headquarters in March. This is our first time hosting the State Roadeo in our new facility, and we look forward to ‘showing off’ in more than just the competition. Guests will enjoy GRTC hospitality, explore our modern facilities and have the opportunity to ride the new GRTC Pulse service while in town.”
Competition events will occur Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24 at GRTC HQ, 301 E. Belt Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23224. On Saturday, mechanic teams perform a series of timed tests, including discovering an engine problem planted that must be identified and repaired before time expires.
On Sunday, with events open to the public, the big bus show will be exciting to watch as operators compete as teams and individuals on a timed obstacle course in 35-foot and 40-foot buses. Spectator areas will be open to the public Sunday to provide safe and enjoyable views of the action. Roadeo events occur outdoors, rain or shine. Guests and spectators are welcome at GRTC HQ on Sunday between 8AM and 4:30PM, and must check-in at our Front Desk.
