GRTC's ambassador program now fully operational
The Greater Richmond Transit Company's (GRTC) ambassador program is now fully operational. The agency introduced four new public safety ambassadors outfitted in black and yellow uniforms to provide a visible, customer-focused presence throughout the system.
GRTC says the public safety ambassador team is dedicated to enhancing rider safety and providing on-the-ground support to passengers.
"In just the month of April, our [public safety ambassadors] have assisted riders over 300 times in various capacities, including helping a lost young child get back home safely who was found riding alone on the system," said GRTC COO Kevin Hernandez. "Their impact is already invaluable!"
"We’re excited to have our public safety mmbassadors fully operational and visible in their new uniforms," said GRTC CEO Sheryl Adams. "These professionals play a vital role in keeping our riders safe and supported, reinforcing our commitment to providing a safe and reliable transit experience.”
Public safety ambassadors are GRTC employees and a key part of the agency's broader public safety program, working alongside contracted public safety officers to create a safer, more welcoming rider experience. Public safety ambassadors will be riding buses, directly engaging with passengers, while public safety officers are primarily stationed at the Downtown Transfer Station, one of the busiest hubs. Together, these teams work to reduce service disruptions, enhance security and maintain a supportive transit environment.
