Masabi has joined forces with Transit, North America’s leading mobility app, to announce the launch of integrated mobile ticketing in Transit.

The first supported agency for mobile ticketing in Transit is the St. Catharines Transit Commission in Ontario. Its riders, more than half of whom already open Transit daily, can now buy, store and use tickets inside Transit. Riders don’t need to download a new app. Instead, they can purchase tickets on their phone anytime, anywhere, with the app they already use every day.

Ticketing in Transit through Masabi’s Justride SDK is available to agencies of all sizes and can be deployed as a comprehensive stand-alone service, or offered alongside existing mobile ticketing options. Operators can make it easier for riders to use their services by offering ticketing inside Transit, which is already endorsed by dozens of agencies as their official app.

“Planning and paying for trips across modes, with public transit as the foundation, is the holy grail for cities,” said Jake Sion, Transit’s chief operating officer. “It’s only natural for riders to purchase tickets with the same app they use to plan trips and track their ride. Working with our partners, including Masabi and transit agencies across North America, we’re helping cities make seamless mobility a reality.”

“By linking together market-leading mobility services, we are able to offer agencies of all sizes a best-of-breed experience and increase the convenience of public transit,” said Brian Zanghi, chief executive officer at Masabi. “We are excited to be working with Transit and St. Catharines Transit Commission on this groundbreaking project.”

“We’re excited to be launching mobile ticketing with our partners at Transit and Masabi,” said Tim Luey, manager of transportation at St. Catharines Transit Commission. “Mobile ticketing gives our customers another convenient way to purchase their tickets whenever and wherever they please. We believe this is just the first step of many with our partners to improve the ticketing experience for our customers.”

With this launch, Transit becomes the only app in North America to offer trip planning and payment across public transit, bikeshare, carshare and ridehail. The ability to easily use these options together is a breakthrough for cities as they help people get from a to b without their own car.

Masabi’s Justride SDK allows Transit to request fare types, make payments, and deliver visual and barcode tickets to riders through a secure ticket wallet. The wallet communicates with Masabi servers to understand complex fare tables and manage ticket lifecycle and security.

Agencies using Masabi’s Justride SDK will also have access to the Justride Hub, which they can use to access a wealth of back office data including real-time sales, usage and validation information and an extensive customer service interface. Masabi also offers a supporting validation suite allowing users to scan tickets when boarding transit.
