Ritron, Inc. reported that Caltrain has taken delivery of 57 of Ritron narrowband RCCR locomotive radios.
The order included a mix of one-piece and two-piece models. The contract award was made to Ritron’s reseller, Day Wireless.
The radio purchase was in response to the FCC Jan. 1, 2013 deadline requiring radio users to switch from wide band technology to narrow band or digital radio technology. The radio model purchased by Caltrain is also future upgradeable to the established Class 1 freight railroad standard, “NXDN” digital.
