Fireworks shot off on the platform of the Farragut West Metro station caused a brief panic Monday during the height of the evening rush. Riders turned to Twitter around 5:20 p.m., reporting that people were rushing out the station exit in a panic after what sounded like shots.
Metro Transit Police who responded found evidence of fireworks on the station platform, Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said. No one was reported hurt, he said, but there were freaked out people. Fireworks are prohibited inside the system, of course. Stessel said Metro police would review camera footage to identify the culprit(s). Kytja Weir
