Dec. 3, 2020
The 33-year veteran of the agency will use his ‘unrivaled knowledge, insights and relationships’ to rebuild the transit system during its recovery from the pandemic.

King County Metro Interim General Manager Terry White has been appointed to fill the position on a permanent basis by King County Executive Dow Constantine. White has a 33-year career with the regional transit agency, serving as deputy general manager before moving to the interim GM role on Aug. 1 following the departure of Rob Gannon this summer.

As deputy general manager, White oversaw all of Metro Operations, including bus, rail and marine service, facilities and vehicle maintenance. White’s previous Metro roles include transportation planner, customer service administrator, communications superintendent and managing director of bus operations.

Constantine explained White’s experience makes him the ideal fit to lead King County Metro through the continued COVID-19 response and recovery, and “toward rebuilding a transit system that’s even better than before.”

"I am honored to appoint Terry White to be King County Metro general manager," said King County Executive Dow Constantine. "Terry possesses a bold vision for how our transit system can lead with equity and prioritize service where needs are greatest. Across his remarkable 33-year career at Metro, he has unrivaled knowledge, insights and relationships with the agency's communities, customers and employees."

The county notes during a historically challenging year, White recommitted Metro to its values of safety, equity and sustainability. During his time as interim general manager, King County Metro instituted system-wide health enhancements to protect customers and employees, increased service levels in south King County and prepared for the arrival of the next generation of zero-emission battery-electric buses in spring 2021.

"I am honored to lead Metro," said White. "I look forward to continuing to work alongside colleagues and partners to expand and improve our regional mobility network and to prioritize where needs are greatest. I know how important transit is for connecting individuals and families to opportunity - as well as to our communities, our economy and our environment."
