Morrell, who replaces former chief of police Jose Marenco, brings more than 25 years of experience in law enforcement.

King County Metro has selected Todd Morrell as its new chief for the Metro Transit Police Department following a competitive recruitment process.

“I have tremendous confidence in Todd and the experience he brings for this critical position to support public safety,” said Rebecca Frankhouser, King County Metro’s managing director of safety, security and quality assurance.

Morrell brings more than 25 years of experience in law enforcement. As a collaborative leader, he focuses on building consensus and leading by three core tenets: Be humble, be helpful and be relevant.

As an ardent supporter of transit, Morrell recognizes how vital the role mobility plays in helping communities succeed and thrive.

“I promise to continue the positive trajectory of the Metro Transit Police, and I’m committed to providing excellent service to the community, Metro employees and our riders,” Morrell said. “I recognize the ever-changing expectations of law enforcement, and I’m committed to resolutions that are based in equity, fairness and justice.”

Before joining Metro Transit Police, he served as the operations captain with the Burien Police Department. He also served three tours with MTP as a patrol deputy, sergeant of the Bicycle and Street Crimes Teams and as acting captain of operations. Morrell has also served as a field training officer, master police officer, detective and as a member of the King County SWAT Team.

He replaces former chief of police Jose Marenco, who was promoted to chief of the Patrol Operations Division with the King County Sheriff’s Office in 2022.
