Jörg Nikutta has been appointed managing director for Germany & Austria as of September 1, 2017 and becomes Spokesman of the Management Board of Alstom Transport Deutschland GmbH. Nikutta will be based in Salzgitter, Alstom‘s worldwide largest production site, and in the commercial office in Berlin. He reports to the Senior Vice President Europe, Gian Luca Erbacci and replaces Didier Pfleger, who is now senior vice president for Middle East & Africa at Alstom.
Nikutta received his doctorate in economics from the University of Mannheim. He started his professional career as a consultant before he joined Deutsche Bahn. At Deutsche Bahn, he led various projects, such as the modernization of the IC fleet. He also acted as regional division manager for production, technology and operation in the east of Germany. Later he was appointed director for maintenance and service of the ICE fleet, ensuring the availability of all mainline trains over several years. In this position, he was responsible for ten maintenance workshops and for a large number of provision points with more than 4,500 employees.
“In Dr. Jörg Nikutta we have found a well-qualified new Managing Director, who has known the railway industry for many years. I am convinced that this personnel decision will help us to set the course for the future trendsetting development of our activities in Germany,“ said Gian Luca Erbacci, Alstom’s senior vice pAresident for Europe. “We sincerely thank Didier Pfleger for his achievements in Germany and particularly for his efforts in steering the company towards future success“.
“I am looking forward to this new challenge. My primary goal as Managing Director is to confirm Alstom’s continuous, long-term positioning as a leading supplier of railway infrastructure and technology in Germany and further develop the company’s strategic position in the country for the future," said Nikutta about his appointment.
