Capital Area Transit Mourns Loss of Board Member Lenora M. Smith

The Board of Directors, management and staff of Capital Area Transit (CAT) mourn the recent loss of board member and prominent Harrisburg Attorney Lenora M. Smith, Robert Philbin, CAT spokesperson said today (November 3).

The Board of Directors, management and staff of Capital Area Transit (CAT) mourn the recent loss of board member and prominent Harrisburg Attorney Lenora M. Smith, Robert Philbin, CAT spokesperson said today (November 3).  “Ms. Smith was known for her civil rights advocacy and for providing legal counsel to those often under served by the legal system,” Philbin said. 

“Lenora will be warmly remembered by all who knew her and had the privilege of working with her,” Bill Jones, general manager, commented.

A Philadelphia native, Smith came to Harrisburg as a member of the Gov. Milton Shapp Administration. She quickly established herself as a highly regarded civil rights and criminal defense attorney and community leader. She was elected to Harrisburg City Council where she served with distinction as council Vice President.

Over her career, Smith has served the public as Chief Counsel of the PA Department of the Auditor General, Assistant Attorney General for the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs at the PA Department of State and was a Domestic Relations/Business Law Instructor at Harrisburg Area Community College.

Smith was appointed in January 2014 by Mayor Eric Papenfuse to represent the City of Harrisburg on the Capital Area Transit Board of Directors.
