TX: TAPS to Purchase 9 New Buses with $700K Grant

The TAPS Public Transit board of directors took the initial steps toward purchasing nine new buses for the transit agency this week. This comes as TAPS officials said that a dozen or more of the buses in its fleet have met or exceeded their expected lifespans.

The buses will be purchased under a $700,000 Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery Grant, more commonly known as a TIGER Grant, through the U.S. and Texas Departments of Transportation.

The funds were originally allotted to TAPS several years ago, but were rescinded following the agency’s economic crisis in late 2015. It was only recently that TAPS regained access to these funds, Transdev General Manager Josh Walker said.
