The San Mateo County Transit District will be holding two public meetings to discuss the findings and draft recommendations from the Coastside Transit Study.
The study assessed the transit needs of the coastside and how they could be best met by expanded bus service. Based off of public comments and origin/destination trip data, the District has developed near-term and long-term improvements that will improve mobility for coastside residents.
Some near-term recommendations have already been implemented. On January 21, the District began operating SamTrans Route 118 express bus to connect with the Daly City BART Station and offering an additional evening trip for the same route.
“We heard loud and clear from coastside residents that extending bus service to Daly City BART station and having that service run later are top priorities. We are very pleased to be able to respond to that feedback with immediate service changes,” said District Board Member and coastside resident Zoe Kersteen-Tucker.
In addition, the study calls for an information and marketing campaign on FLX service in Pacifica to ensure all potential riders understand how to make the most of the FLX service. FLX Pacifica runs along a fixed route, but can make deviations to allow for direct service within a half-mile of the route. Riders can arrange this direct service by calling 650-560-0360 up to one day in advance.
The study also makes longer term recommendations including extending the 118 express bus to Half Moon Bay and improvements at the Linda Mar park-and-ride, such as secure bike parking and better waiting areas, restrooms and other amenities. Those items require greater resource investment and multi-agency coordination. New resources could be identified through the Get Us Moving San Mateo County effort, which is identifying community priorities to inform the development of an expenditure plan that could be before voters in November 2018.
The meetings will be held at the following locations:
