The Macatawa Area Express Transportation Authority Board has awarded a $90,071 contract to Correct Mechanical Services, Inc. of Grandville, Mich., to renovate and restore the heating and cooling system at the transit system’s administrative and transfer center in Holland, Mich.
Awarded through a competitive bidding process, the project involves replacing the existing chiller and boilers with energy-efficient models, replacing pumps and motors, and major cleaning and restoration of the ductwork, piping and other components of the HVAC system at the Padnos Center. The MAX Authority Board also approved a $22,100 renovation of the building management system controls that will be completed by Trane, Inc. of Grand Rapids.
The facility, which is now 23 years old, is owned by the city of Holland, which restored and expanded the small train depot in 1991. The Padnos Center is an intermodal hub for city bus, intercity Indian Trails, and Amtrak services.
Funded by federal facility and maintenance grants, the project is expected to be completed by mid-September.
