CA: San Rafael Vets Concepts for New Transit Hub

With four concepts in the works for a new downtown San Rafael transit center, planners say top priorities include safety, pedestrian accessibility, ease of transfer and a minimized impact on traffic.

With four concepts in the works for a new downtown San Rafael transit center, planners say top priorities include safety, pedestrian accessibility, ease of transfer and a minimized impact on traffic.

After a presentation last week, the San Rafael City Council is asking that those four designs are ranked by how well each achieves those goals. Also, city leaders would like to see a focus on business and real estate development around the transit center.

Golden Gate Transit, in coordination with San Rafael, Marin Transit, the Transportation Authority of Marin and Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit, is working on a project to replace the San Rafael Transit Center to allow for better access for buses, SMART commuter trains and other transit services.
