VA: Federal Grant to Grow Blacksburg Transit Fleet

The Blacksburg Transit will be adding another two buses to its fleet through a $1.4 million federal grant.

The Blacksburg Transit will be adding another two buses to its fleet through a $1.4 million federal grant.

The grant was announced Monday by Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine. BT Director Tom Fox said his department applied for the grant several months ago to add two 60-foot long buses — known in the industry as articulated buses.

Fox said those two buses will add to another four new buses that the BT service plans to put on the streets soon. Those four already ordered buses were purchased with $3.6 million awarded through the state’s Smart Scale program and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation.
