A nearly $200,000 settlement has been reached over accusations that a contractor for the Washington transit authority was billing the agency for picking up disabled people who were actually deceased.

A nearly $200,000 settlement has been reached over accusations that a contractor for the Washington transit authority was billing the agency for picking up disabled people who were actually deceased.

Two former van drivers for MV Transportation first brought the case in 2013 in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia under the False Claims Act, which allows whistleblowers to come forward with knowledge of a contractor that is defrauding taxpayers through receiving government funds.

The court documents were unsealed Friday afternoon and are being first reported by The Hill.
