Enhance the Passenger Experience with Vision Systems' Dimmable Windows and Onboard Entertainment System

Sept. 12, 2018
Directly integrated into the glazing, Vision Systems’ Electronically Dimmable Windows allow the passengers to instantly change the tint of their window.

Vision Systems launched the latest generation of dimmable windows on the rail market. Thanks to a new industrial process that has already been tried out successfully for the aeronautic and marine industries, Vision Systems’ smart shading systems provide enhanced optical quality, 30 percent lower cost and a wider range of packaged solutions adapted to each project.

Vision systems will exhibit different versions of its innovative solution. Directly integrated into the glazing, Vision Systems’ Electronically Dimmable Windows allow the passengers to instantly change the tint of their window, or part of it, from clear to dark in order to regulate glare and heat entering the coach while preserving the view. They enhance visual, thermal and acoustic comfort for a greater wellness atmosphere. They can be controlled individually directly at the seat, through a centralized control panel for coach-wide master control, or automatically with integrated light sensors.

Besides, they turn dark when the train is stopped, keeping the interior cooler for low air-conditioning consumption and energy savings.

The electronics of the system are integrated, which facilitates installation in original equipment or retrofitting and reduces maintenance (no moving parts, easy-cleaning) and downtime. Lastly, they are suitable for large flat or curved surfaces with different zones to be dimmed independently.

Vision Systems’ solution was already installed on the mockup of Aeroliner 3000 by Vogler Studio two years ago with the first generation of dimmable windows. The second generation of the solution is currently in production for two new main train projects.

A complete passenger window integrating Vision Systems’ dimmable solution will be presented on AGC’s stand (Hall 1.1, Stand 422).

Moreover, the dimmable solution finds application in the driver cabin, in the side or back window to avoid glare on the dashboard, or as an ergonomic sun visor integrated into the windshield. A demonstrator will also be exhibited at the show.

Furthermore, Vision Systems will unveil a new solution, Info-Vision window, providing both travel information and smart shading system. Indeed, it combines an electroluminescent display integrated into an electronically dimmable window. The information displayed can include the seat number, time to destination, remaining distance, temperature or availability of a service. This new solution offers a modern image and a real brand differentiation.

Lastly, building on its expertise in aeronautics, Vision Systems will present the latest version of its wireless entertainment and connectivity system developed for the rail industry. The solution is designed to enhance customer loyalty by increasing the level of passenger satisfaction while maximizing revenues. From the traveler's personal device, through a customized Graphic User Interface, the system provides access to internet with seamless connectivity and to a rich tailored content stored in an embedded server: movies, music, magazines, daily press, travel services and tourist information.

The flexible solution also allows the insertion of unobtrusive advertising banners to generate even more revenues. A remote web platform enables automatic content and software updates when entering the train station, and users' feedback for content adjustment.
