“Selecting a media player is a key component to making sure your content runs smoothly. Our panel conversation will touch on not only the hardware, but also answer questions about the right operating systems to use,” said Ryan Cahoy, DSF’s Education Committee co-chair and managing director at Rise Vision.

Hangouts are 45-minute panel discussions using Google’s Hangout platform with a moderator and a panel of three or four industry professionals.

The panel comprised of Digital Signage professionals who are members of the DSF, will include:

  • Ivan LapPorte, solutions architect, Intel NUC and Intel Compute Stick
  • Thibaut Rouffineau, head of devices marketing, Canonical
  • Brandon Jones, president & CEO, The Book PC

In addition to discussing the various types of media players, compatible operating systems and how buyers can approach a purchase decision, the panel will address the following questions:

  • What is a media player?
  • Is there an advantage to an external media player vs. a screen with the player built in?
  • What are the differences between the “sticks” and larger devices?
  • Windows, Linux, Android - what should I use, when?
  • There is a huge price range from a $100 to $1,000’s - how do I narrow down what is right for me?
