Masabi explains that the new device provides a robust and reliable pole-mounted validation solution which is simple to install and maintain.

Masabi has launched the Justride Validator – a feature rich multi-format ticket validation device for buses and trams, designed by Masabi so passengers can simply tap a contactless payment card, linked smartcard or mobile device to travel, without needing to purchase a ticket or understand fares. The device makes Account Based Ticketing (ABT) affordable for transport authorities of any size and will be on show at the UITP Global Public Transport Summit in Stockholm between June 10-12 at the Masabi stand (a3063).

The Justride Validator supports all major ticketing formats including paper and mobile barcodes, contactless bank cards (cEMV) and smartcards (NFC), as well as bluetooth. Designed from the ground up, it possesses the necessary capabilities to meet the demands of account-based ticketing, even in large cities, all at a price point that for the first time makes next-generation ticketing accessible to transit agencies and operators in towns and cities around the globe.

Enabling more than 9.5 million journeys a month and on target to exceed $1 billion in annual transit ticketing sales over the coming year, Masabi will continue building on its recent additions to the Justride platform along with world-first integrations with transport leaders including Uber, Transit, Jorudan and Keolis. These partnerships help make it easier for people to discover and access transit by enabling ticketing within their applications in an efficient and scalable way, helping place public transit at the center of the global Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) movement.

“Ticketing using contactless bank cards and smart devices – it’s what passengers are expecting and what transport providers are demanding. However, the reality is that the hardware requirements have made it cost-prohibitive for many transit authorities around the globe. By failing to make tap and ride ticketing accessible to all transport agencies, the industry has been failing passengers,” said Brian Zanghi, CEO of Masabi. “Through combining our SaaS approach, together with this innovative affordable hardware, we are fundamentally changing the economics of Account Based Ticketing, opening it up to cities and transport authorities of any size and budget.”

The new device provides a robust and reliable pole-mounted validation solution which is simple to install and maintain. It has been designed to meet accessibility standards, including US Americans with Disabilities Act and is EMV Level 1 and 2 Compliant with support for MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay and others. It has built-in GPS and cellular connectivity, vehicle-wide and network-wide pass-back protection and much more. When passengers board their chosen mode of transit they simply tap their appropriate fare media, be that a pre-purchased ticket or account-based token.
