The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Police Department has been presented a special wooden chair from a nonprofit to honor the first police officer killed while on duty, Officer Brent Thompson.
The nonprofit organization, Saving a Hero’s Place, builds wooden chairs to commemorate fallen first responders. The chair was presented July 5 at DART’s police headquarters with Thompson’s family in attendance.
Thompson was killed July 7, 2016 when a protest march in Dallas turned violent. His heroism led to President Donald Trump posthumously presenting him with the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor on May 22, 2019.
The honor chair will be placed in Thompson’s memory where roll call is held each day at police headquarters.
