Metrolink has selected Railhead Corporation to supply and install its next-generation LDVR4K™ High-Definition Onboard Video System across Metrolink's fleet of 117 locomotives and cab cars.
Railhead Corporation notes that the award comes as every commuter and intercity passenger railroad in the country works to meet a new federal requirement, as under Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) rule 49 CFR 229.136, all lead passenger locomotives must be equipped with compliant inward- and outward-facing image recording systems, with data retained in a crash-hardened memory module, no later than Oct. 12, 2027. Design is currently underway at Metrolink to ensure the fleet is fully compliant, well ahead of the deadline, as Southern California prepares to host the 2028 Summer Olympics.
Railhead Corporation will provide installation, testing and commissioning services for the entire fleet, so agencies reach compliance without the integration risk of piecing a system together. Over the years, Railhead onboard video systems have been deployed on over 8,000-plus locomotives, cab cars and maintenance of way vehicles.
