Deutsche Bahn's mobility and logistics group showcased a comprehensive array of rail services, providing plenty of fuel for friendly discussion. "We are a globally active company and we use InnoTrans, a leading industry meeting point, to further expand and strengthen our business relations worldwide," explained Deutsche Bahn CEO, Dr. Rüdiger Grube, during the trade fair opening.

The DB Group had in its stand, the original-sized power head of the new ICx train, presented to the public for the first time at the show by German Minister of Transport Dr. Peter Ramsauer, Deutsche Bahn CEO, Dr. Rüdiger Grube, DB Head of Rail Technology and Infrastructure Dr. Volker Kefer and Rail Systems CEO at Siemens AG, Dr. Hans-Jörg Grundmann. The model is around 10 meters long and almost four meters high. The ICx, representing the future of rail passenger traffic, is set to replace the current IC trains in 2016. Surrounding the power head display were six themed areas addressing vehicles, infrastructure, operation, personnel management, purchasing and ecology, representing the broad spectrum of services by DB.

In the open-air grounds, DB was involved in the presentation of the first converted hybrid vehicle for passenger transportation from DB subsidiary Westfrankenbahn, which is based on a VT 642 series. The Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development has provided this project with funding to the tune of approximately 1.9 million Euro as part of the "Electromobility Model Region" project, coordinated by the National Organisation for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology. What started as a pilot project at InnoTrans two years ago now boasts new technology that reduces both CO2 emissions and fuel consumption by up to 25 percent.
