The 3 World Trade Center (WTC) transit lobby, which will provide employees of the office tower convenient access from PATH or New York City subways to the building’s lobby, has opened, according to an announcement from Port Authority and Silverstein Properties.
The 3 WTC transit lobby is located on the southwest corner of the mezzanine level of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub, near the current transit lobby entrance to 4 WTC. It will allow workers to go from the transit systems, through the transportation hub’s mezzanine level to 3 WTC without having to access the tower from street level as they do today.
“Every day, we see new transformative things taking place on this campus that make it an even more attractive venue for people to work or visit,” said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. “The opening of this new transit lobby is just one of many initiatives we have completed in the past year to continue the campus’ revival and to improve the customer experience for its tenants.”
The project was funded by the Port Authority while Silverstein Properties oversaw the construction of the new access point.
“Our goal for the past year is to make the World Trade Center campus as vibrant, lively and customer friendly as possible, and the opening of this new access to 3 WTC furthers our commitment to achieve that goal,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “The 9,000 employees who now work in 3 WTC will now have a far more convenient way to get to and from the subway, PATH and World Trade Center retail shops.”
3 WTC opened in June 2018 and is now home to major tenants including Group M, Diageo, Better.com, Casper, IEX, Hudson River Trading and Kelley Drye. Since the building’s opening, the Port Authority has undertaken numerous initiatives to create an uplifting, inviting atmosphere for workers and visitors on the World Trade Center campus.
“We work every day with our partners at the Port Authority to make the new World Trade Center an exciting, creative and dynamic place to work, shop and visit,” said Larry Silverstein, chairman of Silverstein Properties. “Our new office buildings are connected to the city in every way – on the streets and sidewalks, and now underground thanks to this great new transit lobby. It’s a terrific amenity for the employees in the building, and for everyone visiting the World Trade Center.”
This past summer, the first ever movie nights were held on the campus’ Liberty Park. In June, a real rice paddy was installed on the Oculus Plaza, which will be harvested in late September for a special dinner planned for the site. And on Sept. 8, the highly successful Smorgasburg – the largest outdoor weekly food market in the United States – expanded to a second day, now opening on Sundays in addition to Fridays through the end of October. Also planned for the fall are entertainment opportunities on Cortlandt Way.
