RFPs issued for Scarborough Subway and Eglinton Crosstown West tunneling projects

The projects are part of Ontario’s largest ever transit expansion and include a combined 8.6 miles of tunnels.

Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx have issued two Request for Proposals (RFPs) for advance tunneling work on the Scarborough Subway Extension and the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension projects.

Three teams were shortlisted for each project and these teams have been invited to submit proposals on how the tunneling portion of the projects would be delivered. Infrastructure and Metrolinx expects to award contracts for the work in mid-2021.

The projects include a combined 8.6 miles of tunnels – 3.7 miles for the Eglinton Crosstown West and 4.9 miles for the Scarborough Subway Extension.

To expedite work on these two projects, tunneling will begin first, to be followed by separate contracts for the balance of the work on each project, which includes building the stations, fitting-out the tunnels and installing and commissioning the systems.

The extensions are two of four transit priority projects the provincial government has been working to deliver. In addition to the Scarborough Subway Extension and the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, the other two priority projects are Ontario Line and the Yonge North Subway Extension.
