GCRTA names Janet Burney deputy general manager, legal affairs/general counsel

Burney was hired by GCRTA as deputy general counsel in June 2012 and brings more than 40 years of experience in private and public sector law.

Janet Burney has been promoted to the position of deputy general manager, legal affairs/general counsel for the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA).  

Burney was hired by GCRTA as deputy general counsel in June 2012 and brings more than 40 years of experience in private and public sector law. Burney will begin her new role at GCRTA on July 31, 2022.

Prior to joining GCRTA, Burney was a judge with the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas-Juvenile Division, private practice and chief assistant director of law with the City of Cleveland. Additionally, Burney has healthcare experience as a hospital administrator and registered nurse.  

She has been a board member with several community-oriented organizations throughout her legal career and belongs to several local legal associations. Burney received her Juris Doctor from Cleveland State University, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Skidmore College.
