AVTA was recently honored as a model for transparency and concise communication for their 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

The Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA) is establishing a strong legacy of superior fiscal responsibility. AVTA was recently honored as a model for transparency and concise communication for their 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

This is the fourth consecutive (and 5th overall) time AVTA has been honored as the recipient of the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The award, issued by the GFOA, is the highest form of achievement in government reporting and financial accounting.

Reports are judged by a nonpartisan special review panel to ensure the program’s rigorous standards are met, so the honor is high praise from its peers.

“Our finance team has served as the backbone for upholding our goal to build the first net-zero fleet in the World,” said AVTA Chief Executive Officer Len Engel. “It is through their continued excellence that we can reach new heights in innovation and establish our legacy as a world leader in sustainability for public transportation.”

Founded in 1906, the GFOA is a non-profit organization comprised of more than 19,000 federal, state, and local finance officials. Providing leadership and guidance for best practices in public finance, GFOA’s mission is to promote excellence in state and local government financial management.

“It is an honor to be chosen for this special award for the fifth time and fourth consecutive year,” stated AVTA Chief Financial Officer Colby Konisek. “We are dedicated to upholding the highest standards for financial management in providing full disclosure to the public we serve.”

AVTA first received the Certificate of Achievement in 2008, and has now received the honor for the years 2013-2016. The merit award will be included as a page in their June 2017 CAFR.
