TransLink is making it easier to find a reliable after-hours ride home from Downtown Vancouver with the launch of a new NightBus District pilot project.

All 10 NightBus routes that connect the downtown core with destinations across the region will now start their routes at a new, well-lit hub in the heart of downtown at the corner of Granville and West Georgia streets.

“Making sure that people have a safe way home at the end of the night is a key part of building a vibrant city,” said Gregor Robertson, mayor of the city of Vancouver. “I’m pleased to see TransLink working to provide new transportation solutions for Vancouver residents and visitors who want a convenient and safe way to get home after enjoying our lively entertainment district.”

The hub was inspired by feedback from TransLink’s Late Night Stakeholder Committee, which has been discussing late night transit services for workers and patrons of the Downtown Entertainment District.

The pilot project establishes a single easy-to-find and easy-to-remember NightBus hub at Granville and Georgia.

“Improving access and awareness for TransLink’s night bus network is a great step in the process to improve transportation services that support Downtown Vancouver’s thriving nightlife,” said Charles Gauthier, president and CEO of the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association.

NightBus routes from Downtown Vancouver depart every 30 minutes or better seven days a week, and pick up customers throughout the downtown core. NightBus routes include service to Burnaby and SFU, Coquitlam, North Vancouver, Richmond and YVR, Surrey, UBC and several points throughout Vancouver.

Three NightBus routes closely follow the same routes as the Millennium Line (N9), Canada Line (N10) and Expo Line (N19). Last departures from downtown on these routes are after 4 a.m. Last departures for other routes range from 3:09 a.m. to 5:09 a.m., depending on the route.

  • Cheaper than coat check! It costs less than $3 to get home on NightBus.
  • NightBus District stops are the ones with the full moons on top.
  • All routes will stop at Granville and Georgia every 20 to 30 minutes.

TransLink will monitor the success of the program as we continue our assessment of late-night services.

“The Hospitality Vancouver Association represent businesses in the Granville Entertainment and Davie Village Districts. Having reliable and affordable transportation options for our workers and patrons to get out of the downtown core after the bars close is vital for our businesses. We believe the NightBus District pilot project will be a catalyst in ensuring people are able to get home safely and affordably and thank TransLink for their willingness to try something new," said Christa Montpetit, director, Hospitality Vancouver Association.
