TransLink Introduces Biggest Increase of Bus Service Hours Since 2010

TransLink has announced the biggest bus service hour increase delivered in a single service change since 2010. This is the next wave of bus service improvements funded by the 10-Year Vision for Metro Vancouver Transportation.

TransLink has announced the biggest bus service hour increase delivered in a single service change since 2010. This is the next wave of bus service improvements funded by the 10-Year Vision for Metro Vancouver Transportation.

As part of the biggest transportation expansion in nearly a decade, the region-wide expansion of bus services includes 65,000 more service hours and improvements to 26 routes. Changes will be implemented on April 24, as part of TransLink’s regular spring service changes.

Highlights include:

  • Improved bus schedules to shorten wait times on the C50, C51,C52, C53, 501, 601,  182, 253, 254, 255
  • Reduced overcrowding and pass ups on the 153,180, 250A, 301, 319, 401, 410, 502, 555
  • Extended bus service hours to provide more service to the 335, 375, C3, C4, C10, C11, 184
  • Additional hours to routes 153, 180 and 184 in the Tri-Cities to provide more frequent service during the day, improved schedules and better connections to SkyTrain and West Coast Express.
  • Seasonal service changes, including more trips to the beach and reduced service to post-secondary schools will also be introduced.
  • Outreach teams will be out across the region providing more detailed information for customers.

“Collaborative efforts between the Government of British Columbia, the Government of Canada, the Mayors’ Council and TransLink enabled approximately $2 billion in Phase One investments to improve transportation in the region, including the upcoming bus service improvements announced today. This historic bus service expansion will benefit TransLink customers across Metro Vancouver through increased service and reduced wait times and overcrowding. Looking forward, the province is committed to continuing to work with our partners on Phase Two of the 10-Year Vision," said Peter Fassbender, minister of community, sport and cultural development and minister responsible for TransLink

“Ensuring that people and goods can move throughout our community as safely and efficiently as possible is something the Township of Langley is committed to. We are pleased to see expanded bus service for the 501, 502 and 555 to provide more travel choices for people traveling to or through Langley during the week and late at night," said Mayor Jack Froese, township of Langley.

“This is the biggest increase of bus service hours since 2010.On April 24 we continue to deliver on Phase One of the 10-year Vision. Customers will see immediate benefits with shorter wait times, less crowding and more service on 26 routes across Metro Vancouver," said Kevin Desmond, CEO, TransLink.
