GRTC Advances Southside Bus Stop Installation

Nov. 23, 2016
The Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) will continue installing new bus stop signs south of the James River beginning Tuesday, November 29, 2016.

The Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) has announced that it will continue installing new bus stop signs south of the James River beginning Tuesday, November 29, 2016.

New bus stop signs are already installed on the Southside Routes 72-73 Ampthill/Ruffin Rd. These new signs are taller, more visible, and feature more information about the routes servicing the stop. Public feedback about this new sign design has been overwhelmingly positive.

The next routes to receive new bus stop signs are Routes 60 Chippenham Mall – Hull St. Rd., 61 Crutchfield – Midlothian and 63 Chippenham Square – Midlothian. The rest of the Southside Routes will receive new bus stop signs through Fall and Winter.

GRTC encourages the passing public to remain alert for installation crews. GRTC expects minimal impact during this process, as the installation should only last up to 30 minutes at each stop.

In preparation for this major sign improvement, GRTC staff inventoried the existing bus stop locations and evaluated them for spacing, safety, and customer use. Based on public input, GRTC is equally spacing Southside bus stops to better meet the “suburban activity” standard.
