WURTA thanks Sen. Michael Ellis (WI-R) for introducing SB 259, Rep. Penny Bernard Schaber (WI-D) for co-sponsoring and all of the senators who voted in favor of it on February 11.
This vote gets us closer to establishing a Fox Cities RTA which would:
- Provide a stable, predictable, dedicated funding source for transit services and remove the cost of transit from the property tax
- Stabilize transit services; maintain access to jobs, medical appointments, shopping, school and recreational destinations; preserve mobility for a growing senior population; meet the increasing demand for accessible transportation for the disabled; and support economic development
- Enable municipalities to respond to diminishing funding from other sources
WURTA looks forward to the legislation progressing to the Wisconsin State Assembly for a vote.
