OTTAWA - The president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 279 is encouraging Ottawa bus drivers and mechanics to vote in favour of a deal that would avoid a winter transit strike.
The deal offered by the city calls for a two per cent salary increase, which union officials say will add between $1,100 and $1,300 a year to employee paycheques.
Union president Gary Queale says another condition, that union members maintain and service the trains for Ottawa's light rail project, will result in about 150 jobs.
The 2,600 union members are to vote on the deal with OC Transpo on Friday.
