WMATA to implement service adjustments to eight routes Sept. 24.

Sept. 21, 2023
The service adjustments will improve safety, reliability and the customer experience to provide better bus service.

Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (WMATA) will implement service adjustments to eight routes that will improve safety, reliability and the customer experience to provide better bus service on Sept. 24. In the District of Columbia, schedule adjustments will be made on the B2 to better align with ridership demands with school dismissal.

In Virginia, new stops will be added on the 11Y in Old Town Alexandria to give customers more options and convenience while bus bay changes for the B21, B22 routes at the Bowie Park & Ride in Maryland will improve operations and safety for customers.

WMATA’s trip planning tools, including real-time information on BusETA and WMATA’s trip planner will be updated to reflect the changes.

Customers are advised the S2 and S9 routes will remain on temporary detour due to a roadway safety project at K and 16th streets NW until October. Once the project is complete, the S2 and S9 will resume their normal routing as listed on BusETA real-time information and WMATA's trip planner. Signage will be posted at effective bus stops with detour information and alternate bus stop locations.

Service changes will be implemented on the following routes:

  • DC: B2, H2, H4, S2, S9
  • Maryland: B21, B22
  • Virginia: 11Y

More detailed service information can be found on WMATA’s website.
