MO: Council Members Push Back Over Proposed Cuts to Public Transit

July 26, 2018
A Columbia City Council member says he is concerned about proposed public transit cuts in the 2019 city budget.

A Columbia City Council member says he is concerned about proposed public transit cuts in the 2019 city budget.

City officials claim the $300,000 in expense reductions could save about $300,000 during a time of slumping sales tax revenue that will eventually lead to a loss of other public services.

City Manager Mike Matthes, in the fiscal 2019 budget, is proposing a $1 increase for ParaTransit rides, while reducing the service area, eliminating the last bus route after 7 p.m. weekdays and ending the Saturday and special events service by June 1, 2019.
