King County Metro’s Via to Transit on-demand service expands in Renton Highlands
King County Metro Transit has expanded its Via to Transit program, offering riders in Renton, Wash., more mobility options.
The on-demand service added four more hubs in Renton Highlands and extended service hours to match other Via to Transit service areas.
“Via helps connect more and more people to Metro’s network with on-demand service, which means fewer cars on the roads and more people getting to where they need to go with green Metro transit,” said King Executive Dow Constantine. “Guided by rider feedback, we’re adding more Renton Highlands service hours and locations to make it even easier to connect to work, school, community and more.”
Via to Transit serves some of the most diverse neighborhoods in the county
King County Metro’s Mobility Framework—which helps King County Metro serve communities equitably and sustainably— identified the neighborhoods where flexible programs like Via to Transit should supplement bus and rail service.
The agency says it worked closely with communities to understand their needs and heard residents express strong support for on-demand, flexible service. This latest expansion of Via to Transit will help people move within Renton Highlands and between Renton Highlands and elsewhere in the region.
New extended service hours:
- Monday through Saturday from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
- Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to midnight

- Hazen High School (New)
- King County Public Health/Renton Technical College (New)
- Kubota Garden
- Rainier Beach Link light rail station
- Renton Landing (New)
- Renton Transit Center
- Skyway Library
- Whitman Court/Safeway (New)
Via to Transit is a pilot, on-demand service that connects riders to and from transit and community hubs in four service areas: Othello, Rainier Beach/Skyway, the Renton Highlands and Tukwila. Anyone in the service areas can download the Via app or call to request a ride. The goal of Via to Transit is to make getting to and from transit and key destinations easier and more accessible.
Paying and transferring to bus and rail
Via to Transit costs the same as riding the bus: $2.75 adult, $1.50 ORCA LIFT and youth, $1 with Regional Reduced Fare Permit and free for children aged five and under. Using an ORCA card lets riders transfer fares between Via to Transit and buses or Link light rail. Riders can also pay with a Transit GO Ticket, or a credit/debit card in the Via app/call center. Accommodations will be made for riders with disabilities.
