As of May 14, 2018, carpoolers commuting to Walnut Creek Station can now get guaranteed parking until 10:00 a.m. when they use carpooling app, Scoop. Bay Area Rapid Transit allocated permit parking spaces at Walnut Creek station specifically for carpoolers using Scoop. The app efficiently connects neighbors and co-workers and fills seats in vehicles already driving to BART stations.

“With one parking lot closed to construct the new parking garage, this program can help to ease some of the pressure on daily fee parking at Walnut Creek.” says Jumana Nabti, manager of access programs at BART.

The Scoop to BART program continues its goal to relieve impacted BART parking and improve work commutes. It offers guaranteed parking before 10:00 a.m., and carpoolers using Scoop will no longer need to rush to find parking before 7:00 a.m., when first-come, first-served parking spaces regularly fill up at Walnut Creek Station.

To get guaranteed parking at Walnut Creek Station, carpoolers can download the free Scoop app for iOS or Android at takescoop.com. Type in the BART station name, and schedule a ride either before 9:00 p.m. the night before the morning commute or by 3:30 p.m. for that evening’s commute.  Shortly after the deadline, Scoop notifies commuters who have matched with one of their 100,000+ users, and provides a guaranteed ride home for passengers unable to be matched into a carpool for their return trip. Scoop coordinates with BART to help verify carpoolers and works with BART police to ensure smooth operations every morning.

“Scoop has been a long-time partner of the 511 Carpool Program, providing increased carpool commute flexibility for Bay Area commuters. That flexibility, combined with guaranteed BART parking, is a big benefit to commuters struggling to get to work each day,” said Barbara Laurenson, MTC’s project manager for the 511 Carpool Program.

The Scoop to BART program is a recipient of the Federal Transit Administration Mobility On-Demand Sandbox grant. This grant funds expansion of the program, and enhancements on Scoop’s app platform that improve the experience for BART commuters. The program is a partnership between BART, Scoop Technologies, and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission 511 Carpool Program.
