Residents, commuters and visitors are embracing bike sharing and rolling up impressive numbers for a program the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) introduced only six months ago.

The RTC Bike Share program, with 180 bikes at 21 strategically placed stations in downtown Las Vegas, provides a convenient, healthy and affordable transportation option. Since launching last October, users have:

  • Burned more than 1 million calories pedaling their way on short trips.
  • Logged more than 25,000 miles in more than 8,000 trips over 4,000 hours of time.
  • Eliminated more than 12 tons of carbon gases from the environment while reducing traffic congestion.
  • Bought nearly 4,000 passes with the majority being single-ride passes.

“The bike share program is integral to our commitment to provide multimodal transportation options in Southern Nevada,” said RTC General Manager Tina Quigley. “There are various ways to travel but our residents and visitors are embracing the convenience and affordability bike share brings to the downtown area.”

RTC Bike Share single-ride passes can be purchased at the station kiosks for $4 for 30 minutes of usage. Other passes include a 24-hour pass for $8 and a 30-day membership for $20, both of which can be purchased online. The 24-hour passes and 30-day memberships allow users to check out a bike for a half-hour at a time, for as long as the pass duration allows without additional fees.

The program complements the dedicated green bike lanes in downtown Las Vegas and the RTC Bike Center at the Bonneville Transit Center, which offers free bike parking, complimentary bike clinics, onsite bike repairs and rentals, as well as bathrooms, showers and lockers for commuting cyclists in the downtown area.
