How Capped Fare Works For The Rapid's Wave Smart Card

Aug. 14, 2018
When passengers ride The Rapid using their Wave smart card, they can get the savings of daily, weekly and monthly passes, but without the commitment or the upfront cost.

The Rapid's Wave e-fare system features plastic smart cards and a mobile ticketing smartphone app. The cards and the app will hold pay-as-you-go value to make travel even more effortless than before.

Riders can purchase their fares or add funds online, at ticket vending machines, Rapid Central Station or at a large network of retailers and local convenience stores. They will then be able to simply tap their smart card or scan their mobile ticketing smartphone app as they board to pay their fare.

The Rapid is the first Michigan public transportation agency to introduce this innovative e-fare payment system.

When passengers ride The Rapid using their Wave smart card, they can get the savings of daily, weekly and monthly passes, but without the commitment or the upfront cost. They pay their way one trip at a time, and never pay for a trip they don’t take. The Wave will gives them the best deal on their fare based on how much they ride.
